Shannon

Shannon brings a diverse and valuable background to her teaching role at Dunsandel Childcare & Preschool. Her career began in the business sector, where she completed a Certificate in Business Administration in 2002–2003 while working in a call centre. After several years in that field, Shannon felt drawn to a more hands-on and fulfilling career, which led her into early childhood education.

In 2006, she began working as a permanent reliever in a Christchurch ECE centre and quickly discovered a passion for working with tamariki. This inspired her to enrol in the New Zealand College of Early Childhood Education in 2007, where she completed her Diploma of Teaching (ECE). Shannon joined the Dunsandel team in 2010 and became a fully registered teacher in 2014.

Shannon is passionate about the ever-changing nature of teaching and brings warmth, patience, and attentiveness to her work, especially with toddlers – a group she feels especially connected to. She values each child’s individuality and creates an environment where tamariki feel respected, supported, and empowered to learn.

Outside of preschool, Shannon enjoys walking and running with her dog, playing darts, and spending quality time with friends and whānau. Her calm, consistent presence and years of experience make her a much-loved member of our team.
