Bluegoose preschool team - Shiree

Shiree

Role: Teacher

Shiree joined the team at Dunsandel Childcare & Preschool in 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience from years of working with people in the community. Residing in Rakaia, she has a warm, approachable nature and has quickly become a cherished member of our preschool whānau.

With a strong background in community engagement and a lifelong passion for competitive sports, Shiree brings energy and enthusiasm to everything she does. She encourages tamariki to be active, adventurous, and to embrace movement and outdoor play as part of their daily rhythm. Whether it’s a game of tag, obstacle courses, or simply running freely, Shiree helps create an environment where physical activity is fun, empowering, and inclusive.

A proud grandmother, Shiree’s own mokopuna attended the preschool, and it didn’t take long before the rest of the tamariki affectionately began calling her ‘Nana’ too. She is now fondly known as Nana to most of the children and their whānau – a reflection of the love, care, and comfort she naturally provides.

Shiree also has a deep love for gardening and brings her passion for kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the land) into her teaching practice. She delights in sharing her knowledge of plants, sustainability, and caring for Papatūānuku with the tamariki. From planting seeds to tending the vegetable garden, she helps children connect with nature and understand their role as kaitiaki (guardians) of the environment.

Her nurturing heart, playful spirit, and commitment to active, hands-on learning make Shiree; our Nana- a truly valued and beloved part of our preschool team.
